How to Apply
Welcome to the Royal British International School’s Admissions page.
First of all, we would like to thank you for considering joining our Royal Family. Along with our truly dedicated Admissions and Enrolment Personnel, we look forward to welcoming you!
The Royal School is academically oriented & highly selective. The criterion for acceptance in any year level is academic accomplishment, rather than age, although age acts as a limiting aspect.
Thought is first given to students who already have siblings registered in our School. Additional consideration is given to students who apply from schools which offer similar academic programmes or follow a similar academic syllabus. More consideration is given to students with the most academic ability keeping in mind space availability and the date when the application was first processed. All other considerations may or may not play a major role in the admission process depending on the individual case.

Assessment
All applicants for Years 1-12 are assessed as part of the admissions process. Prospective students at Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2Â levels are evaluated by the Lower Primary Principal. Students applying for Years 3-12 take an on-line Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4) in the core subjects of Literacy & Numeracy.
CAT4 is chosen by schools for its proven accuracy in delivering insights.
CAT4 is the UK’s most widely used test of reasoning abilities for children aged 6-17+ years.
Measuring the four main types of ability known to make a difference to learning and achievement, CAT4 provides an independent perspective on potential pupil achievement, with reliable information for each child that will help identify where to provide extra support or set more challenging targets.
CAT4 provides a rounded profile of pupil ability so you can target support, provide the right level of challenge and make informed decisions about pupils’ progress. It provides a unique profile of strengths and weaknesses across four batteries:-
- Verbal Reasoning – the ability to express ideas and reason through words is essential to subjects with a high language content, and the most obvious skill picked up by traditional assessment.
- Non-verbal Reasoning – problem-solving using pictures and diagrams; skills which are
important in a wide range of school subjects, including maths and science-based subjects. - Spatial Reasoning – the capacity to think and draw conclusions in three dimensions, needed for
many STEM subjects, but not easily measured by other datasets. - Quantitative Reasoning – the ability to use numerical skills to solve problems, applicable well
beyond mathematics.

The assessment tests are evaluated to determine if the student has attained the minimum expected standard for each subject. The final assessment decision is made by the school and the Family is informed.
